The process of selling a home, removing the contents can be daunting. Brenda and team made the process easy. They completely took over.
They organized, researched, tagged the contents of our home; conducted a three day sale. When the sale was completed arrangements were made to have a charity remove items. Our garage was filled with unwanted items, Brenda arranged an excellent company to remove the unwanted items.
My experience was terrific. Brenda is professional and understands the emotions of selling a home. She has integrity. I would highly recommend Brenda.

One of the most daunting aspects of Edward's move was the fact that the house was five levels, each totally loaded with stuff accumulated over more than 50 years. When I thought of the time I would have had to spend in New Jersey, away from my family and my job, just to clear it all out, I was overwhelmed. We were completely relieved after we met with you and you agreed to take on the job. It was very comforting to know that the sale was in such capable hands even though we were out-of-state. You kept us fully informed as to the progress of the clean out and sale via phone and email so that it did not feel that we were half a country away! I love that name, by the way! Everyone on Brenda's team was friendly and very helpful. I'm pointing that out because you have a lot of people walking in and out of these sales, and overseeing all the activity, in my opinion, can be stressful! I am waiting on line with these buyers and I know whereof I speak! These shoppers can be brutal and a professional, alert, and composed estate sales team deserves a lot of credit. Brenda Hogan Devereux runs The Real McCoy estate and house sales out of Montville (realmccoyestatesales.com). She uses her own website to post photos of desirable items available at upcoming sales.
"You can really shop around without even going to the sales," she said. "We have tons of great deals, at prices way below retail, and it's good, solid merchandise."
She said shoppers come to her sales with printouts of what they saw online-"It's a beautiful thing when they can shop even before they get here."
"You never know what you're going to find," Devereux added. "Furniture, older pottery, primitives... One recent house had 150 years worth of merchandise, from three or four generations."
She said she covers all of North Jersey and has worked in homes of all ages.
"We had a sale in a Montville house that belonged to a senator in the late 1800s," she recalled. "It had 35 stained-glass windows and woodwork to die for. It was a chance of a lifetime, to see and work in it. We sold parlor sofas, pottery, glassware and wrought-iron garden furniture."
Some of the biggest bargains that have passed through her hands lately were paintings and sculpture, as well as linens and quilts from the Victorian era. "You couldn't make those today," she said, "but they were ridiculously cheap. I price everything to move."
A Buyer's Market
Devereux admitted that in the past two years she has lowered her prices sharply.
"When I see certain types of furniture aren't moving, I reduce them," she said. "I'm also affected by the Internet, because the market is flooded with a lot of items. I price below eBay, because a lot of people buy to resell."
She noted that "the early-morning crowd" generally includes a fair number of dealers. Homeowners, though, are usually just "looking for anything that fits into their décor."
